Tension prevailed in Hyderabad on Monday when the police prevented Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy from entering the BR Ambedkar State Secretariat.Police stopped Revanth Reddy near Telephone Bhavan near the Secretariat.
Revanth, who is also a member of Parliament, took exception to the police action.
The police has reportedly stopped his vehicle, after learning that he was on his way to the secretariat to meet the municipal administration principal secretary Aravind Kumar to file a Right to Information Act (RTI) petition, seeking information regarding the privatisation of maintenance of the Outer Ring Road from the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD).
The police argued that the official whom he wanted to meet was not available at the secretariat, did not allow him to move forward.
This comes after Revanth Reddy alleged that the state government had assigned tender to a Mumbai-based company to collect toll fees from customers on Outer Ring Road (ORR) for a throwaway price of 246 crores (the existing tender fetches 750 crores annually).
The Congress State President said that they would conduct an inquiry into all tenders called for by the BRS government after the Congress comes to power in Telangana state.
Revanth Reddy fumed at the police behavior.“I was stopped by the police and asked to take permission to meet higher officials.I am an MP and I have no need to take any such permission.
The Chief Minister, who espouses the ideology of Dr B.R.Ambedkar has failed to implement it by denying MP entry into the state Secretariat,” Revanth Reddy said.
Later, the Congress State Chief went to Masab Tank where he met municipal administration officers and filed a RTI query seeking information on ORR toll fee collection.
He said that when Congress was in power, they had constructed ORR in Hyderabad by spending around 6,696 crores. The government introduced toll plazas to collect fees.
