In the plea filed by Telangana Government seeking directions to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to clear ten bills passed by the legislative assembly, which were awaiting her assent, the Supreme Court on Monday was informed that all the pending bills had been assented to by the Governor.
The matter was listed before a bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha.
While disposing of the matter, the bench observed that bills should be returned “as soon as possible” to give effect to the first proviso of Article 200 of the Indian constitution.
Things are not going well between Telangana Chief Minister KCR and Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan for some time.
Due to various reasons, the gap between the Raj Bhavan and Pragathi Bhavan is getting wider. The protocol issue is adding fuel to the fire.
Saying that the Governor’s office is yet to clear a few bills, the Telangana government approached the Supreme Court.
As the petition is slated to be heard by the Supreme Court, the Governor shocked the Telangana government by sending back two bills seeking more clarity.
While clarity was sought on two bills, one bill was sent back.So the Governor has no pending bills with her.
Many doubt if it was a calculative move to seek information on two bills. The petition filed by the Telangana government is being heard today and if the court asks her then she can say that no pending bills are lying with her. However, there is also another version of this.
As the government should give clarity on the two bills, the ruling party should call for a meeting in the Assembly House.
So this can also be used by the Governor during the case hearing. So it appears that the Governor might have done this on purpose.
