by Sanu K.Geroge Thiruvananthapuram 13th of September : The CPI-M dissing Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra was not surprising, considering the apprehensions the LDF-led government has faced in the state over the last few months.
People who are familiar with the political environment in the state can understand the reason CPI-M launched its first attack on Gandhi in a debate about the length of his time in Kerala as well as Uttar Pradesh during the rally.
A media critic under the condition of anonymity stated “The CPI-M’s only remaining home base in the nation is Kerala.
Despite the party making history by holding the power in the 2021 April Assembly elections there are to be more than one for the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vishyan’s government to be anxious about the massive reaction this yatra has provoked,” said the critic.
He continued to point out that even though there’s no election in the near future and the next one is 2024 Lok Sabha polls, if the Congress is capable of building the party at the grassroots which is not good for Vijayan and his party.
The 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Vijayan was hit hard as the Congress-led UDF won 19 out of the 20 seats in the state.
“Even although in 2019 the situation was different, it was largely due the stance that was taken by Vijayan in the Sabarimala temple issue, the road was not easy for Vijayan.
The response that the yatra evoked in only three days shocked the CPI-M, and they have mocked the yatra.
In a dig at the Gandhi scion CPI-M had slammed his lengthy journey in Kerala and just two days in UP.
According to the schedule the former Congress president will remain in the state of LDF-governed Kerala until September 30.
In conjunction with Rahul’s caricature of him, the CPI-M posted: “Bharat Jodo or seat Jodo 18 days in Kerala and 2 days in UP.Strange ways to combat the BJP-RSS.”
The yatra will comprise permanent members of 118 and will traverse the country for more than 3,750 kilometers through 12 states, and reach the destination in 150 days.
It crossed the Kerala border on September 11, and will encompass 43 Assembly constituencies, 12 Lok Sabha and 453 kms in 19 days.
