Chennai 13th of September : With Flu being a major issue for children in different districts of Tamil Nadu, the admission rates in hospitals have increased, and an overwhelming number of students are not attending schools.Doctors have reported an increase of 25 percent in the amount of colds, flu-related fevers and cough in the last few weeks throughout the state and is most prevalently affected by schoolchildren.
Dr.Manonmani.G Professor of Pediatrics in the Government Medical College in Tamil Nadu in an interview with IANS told IANS, “With the Covid protocols at ease, people are not wearing masks, and this could be one of the reasons behind the return of diseases like flu in youngsters in Tamil Nadu which was at a low point during the last two years of Covid 19 pandemic.”
She stated that new types of viruses are found in the samples that are collected for research .The majority of children suffer from Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) that is now the main cause of the common cold and fever in children.
Dr.
Manonmani also said that after further relaxations from pandemic protocols viruses are resurfacing with the force of a hurricane.She stated that certain viruses that change frequently are also found in the samples of test specimens during research and was an issue of concern.
Doctors also stated that Human parainfluenza virus – 3 (Respiratory illness that is associated with the bronchiolitis, bronchi and pneumonia) rhinovirus and influenza B virus are often seen in this season from the samples being analyzed.
Dr.
Bindu Menon, virologist at Madurai medical college, stated that there are new viruses that have not been seen before.She also added that all of these viruses are gaining hosts and that transmission rates are increasing.
She stated that the flu only lasts lasting three or 4 days in children, however the kids are suffering from long-lasting coughs for three weeks , and aren’t responding to cough syrups.
The Children’s Wards in almost all of the government hospitals in numerous districts of Tamil Nadu are full as admission rates for cold and fever are rising.
