Johannesburg 12 September : Mark Boucher has taken a decision to quit his position as the Head Coach of South Africa men’s team following the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, Cricket South Africa announced on Monday.Cricket South Africa will announce a replacement in the near future.
“Mr.(Mark) Boucher has made the decision to resign in order to explore different opportunities in the line with his goals for his career and personal goals.
Although Cricket SA greatly regrets that Boucher cannot complete the length of his contract, the organization appreciates the decision of Boucher and wishes him the luck in his future endeavors,” Cricket South Africa announced in an announcement here.
Boucher has served in the role of South Africa Men”s Head Coach since December of 2019 and has led the Proteas to 11 wins in Tests and an unforgettable series win of 2-1 against India at home in January 2022.
The Proteas are also currently at number 2 in the ICC World Test Championship table.
In the limited-overs field, Boucher has helped South Africa win in 12 One-Day Internationals as well as 23 T20 International victories, the most recent of which was a historic win in a series of 2-1 against England.
The final series under his directorship will be a white-ball tour of India from September 28 until October 11, before departing for the T20 World Cup in Australia in which South Africa are grouped alongside Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.The tournament runs from October 16 through November 13.
In the wake of Boucher’s decision to step down, CSA Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki commented: “We would like to express our gratitude to Mark for his efforts and time he has put into in South African cricket as the Head Coach for the last three years.He has guided us through some difficult waters due to the departures of numerous senior players and has helped to lay solid foundations for the next generation of Proteas.”
“We thank him for all the hard work he has accomplished and would want to wish him the best with the next chapter of his career,” he added.
Director of Cricket Enoch Nkwe said: “We are deeply saddened by Mark’s decision to quit us, but we recognize and accept his desires.He is a Proteas legend and has done a lot to improve the sport in our country on the field as well as over the past three years off the field which we greatly thank him for.
“He has created a solid base to allow South Africa to flourish in all three formats.I’m sure we’ll be able to see the outcomes of this when we watch the T20 World Cup next month.He has a stable team already which has been growing in confidence and we are looking eagerly to watch them in their crucial game in India ahead of when they travel for Australia.”
