Bengaluru 12th September : The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has intensified its operations to clear obstructions in the flood-affected areas of the capital city of the state even though the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday that there is no evidence of any differences in the process.
Speaking to journalists in Vidhana Soudha, Bommai confirmed that eviction notices have been issued to those who constructed houses or structures in Rajakaluve (storm water channel) which is causing issues in the stream of water or even closing it completely to get them out of the way.

He said the recent flooding were not just affecting IT/BT workers and companies but also the general population because houses in low-lying regions also were affected.The removal of all infringements will be finished, he said.

Responding to a question Bommai said that the government has sought guidance from the courts in several cases.Courts will be informed of the current situation.

There have been several directions handed out by tribunals in connection with flood-related instances in the past.The obstructions will be removed in a large size, he added.

In the meantime, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath stated that instructions have been issued to authorities to remove 600 structures that have invaded the storm drains in Bengaluru.

The process has been stepped up in Mahadevapura area, which is home to large IT and BT firms – was most affected by the rainy season.

Sources said that one of the most famous IT park’s owners in C.V.Raman Nagar was able to block BBMP officers, who were there to clear encroachment, of their duties.

Notice has been sent to more than 15 homeowners of villas within the Rainbow Drive Layout, which literally submerged in the sea.The residents were forced to be removed in vessels and tractors out of the layout.The owners were ordered to remove the encroachments themselves and told that if they don’t do this the BBMP will take over the task and owners will be responsible for the costs.
