San Francisco, Sep 9 : Tata Group is in discussions with an Taiwanese supplier for Apple in the hope of establishing an joint venture for electronics manufacturing in India and to assemble iPhones there, Bloomberg reported on Friday. As per the report the talks with Wistron are designed to make Tata an industry leader in manufacturing technologies.
The Group intends to leverage the Taiwanese company’s experience in development of products as well as supply chain and assembly.
If the deal succeeds, Tata might become the first Indian company to produce iPhones that are currently generally manufactured in China as well as India through Taiwanese manufacturing giants such as Wistron and Foxconn Technology Group, the report stated.
In addition, earlier in the month an analyst from the industry Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the next iPhone 15 is likely to be produced simultaneously in India as well as China next year.
“The iPhone 14’s production schedule in India this year is about six weeks ahead of China however, the gap has widened.
Therefore, it’s reasonable to believe that India and China will be able to manufacture the brand new iPhone 15 at the same time next year,” Kuo tweeted earlier.
In the last month, reports suggested that Apple was set to begin manufacturing of the most recent iPhones in India just two months following its launch.
But, Kuo later noted that it would be produced “about six weeks” after that.
Apple first began making iPhones in India in 2017 with iPhone SE.The tech giant produces several of its latest iPhones in India such as iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, at the Foxconn facility in India, while iPhone SE and iPhone 12 are being built in the Wistron factory in the country.
