Matthew Hayden named Pakistan team mentor for T20 World Cup

Lahore 9 September : Australia batting great Matthew Hayden on Friday was named Pakistan’s team coach for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in October and November, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Hayden will be Hayden’s second time with the Pakistan team after serving as their batting coach consultant during the last T20 World Cup in the UAE where the team made it to the semifinals after beating India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia in the Super 10 league matches.

“I am extremely happy to be reunited with the Pakistan team as their coach to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia and am eager to get back into the culture and experience the spirit of One Nation One Passion.I have witnessed how Pakistan have performed in the ACC T20 Asia Cup and the win on Sunday against India was a triumphant one.

“I believe this Pakistan team has what it takes to be successful in Australia and the weather will be perfect for them both from a bowling and batting standpoint.The team has all of the bases covered.

I am sure that it will be a shining star at the World Cup as it did in the UAE last year.

“I am privileged to have the opportunity to share my experience and knowledge of the various conditions in Australia and I am eager to return in the Pakistan dressing room,” said Hayden in an official statement.

Hayden is expected to be joining the Pakistan side in Brisbane on the 15th of October at the time that the Babar Azam-led team will arrive in Pakistan from Christchurch after having played in the T20I tri-series that also includes Bangladesh as well as hosts New Zealand.

Pakistan are set to play two warm-up matches against England and Afghanistan before their tournament opener against India on the 23rd of October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
