Dubai 8th of September : Pacer Deepak Chahar was on Thursday officially named as a fast bowler with fellow fast-bowler Avesh Khan’s replacement in India’s Asia Cup squad ahead of their final Super Four match against Afghanistan at the Dubai International Stadium.Avesh was exiled of India’s Super Four match against Pakistan on Sunday, after complaining of illness.
India coach Rahul Dravid had anticipated that he would be available for the remaining games in the tournament.Avesh was also absent for India’s Super Four match against Sri Lanka.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has appointed Deepak Chahar as the replacement for Avesh Khan for Team India’s final match of the Asia Cup 2022.Avesh Khan is recuperating from an illness and was advised to rest by the BCCI Medical Team,” stated the BCCI in an official statement.
Chahar was identified as one of the standbys in the squad.He been to Dubai with the Indian team for the tournament in which he was seen working the work in in training sessions.
Chahar returned to international cricket following an absence of six months that was caused by a quadriceps strain and back injuries, with India’s ODI tour of Zimbabwe in August.He played in for two of the three games and picked up five wickets, including the 3/27 mark in his return match in Harare.
Avesh played in the two of the Group A games played by India in Asia Cup 2022 but was costly and far from being impressive.He scored 72 runs over six overs in the two games he was part of playing eleven, and 1/53 in the 1:53 in the 40-run win against Hong Kong.
With India being unable to reach the Asia Cup 2022 final after Pakistan scored a stunning one-wicket victory against Afghanistan on Wednesday.This Thursday’s game against Afghanistan in Dubai will be their final game of the tournament.
India will be next in action in three-match series in the home against the reigning Men’s T20 World Cup champions Australia beginning on September 20 in Mohali.
