Washington on the 8th of September : US Vice President Kamala Harris plans to visit South Korea later this month following the state funeral of late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo the White House announced.The South Korean Foreign Ministry also said on Thursday that she is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on September 29, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Harris is traveling to Tokyo on behalf of President Joe Biden to be the leader of the official delegation at Abe’s funeral, with additional members of the delegation to be announced at a later time, White House press secretary Kirsten Allen announced on Wednesday.
In both Tokyo and Seoul the secretary said, Harris will meet with top government officials and people from civil society in “a sequence of events that will emphasize the power of the US relationships with Japan as well as Korea, particularly the Republic of Korea, our ongoing commitment to a democratic Indo-Pacific that is open and our shared security and economic concerns in the region and across the globe”.
The Republic of Korea is South Korea’s official name.
The trip will be Harris his first official visits to the two countries since he was elected last year.
