Dubai 7 September : India captain Rohit Sharma praised young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh’s confidence and courage in bowling death overs despite India being in the bottom of the table in both of its Super Four matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.In both of India’s losses, both of which were both a result of playing with the ball left, Arshdeep had been assigned to bowl two of his four overs in the dying overs phase.
With his precise yorkers and ability to keep his nerves in pressure circumstances, Arshdeep has been impressive in Asia Cup 2022.In the 10 T20Is played so far, Arshdeep has picked 13 wickets with an average rate of 7.60 and was awarded the player of the series award in India’s 4-1 win against the West Indies in August.
“Even (on Tuesday) today, he bowled pretty well, (especially in) those two last overs.
He is an extremely confident young man and that’s the reason he has come to the club.He is with the team in advance of many of players at home, because he is confident in his head and is a very confident player.I’ve never seen anyone like him in their first years of playing for India.
“He’s extremely confident and is determined to succeed.He’s very eager to achieve success for the team This is a great indication to me as captain.Even Rahul (Dravid the head coach) Bhai will inform that we’re extremely pleased with the way he plays his game and how he approaches his game,” said Rohit in the post-match press conference.
Rohit’s support for Arshdeep comes after the youngster was ridiculed frequently on social media platforms for his missed catch of Asif Ali as the third position in the thrilling match between India and Pakistan on Sunday.
Although Arshdeep was able to oust Ali with an unintentionally pointed yorker in the final over, he had hit 16 runs in eight balls, and Pakistan was able to win the game.
The social media reaction of Arshdeep’s catch that was dropped turned into a savage one after trolls began to attack his account on the basis of his faith.
“Honestly I think that guys don’t look to much at social media because there’s just too many naysayers on the internet.
A couple of defeats here and there a few games between now and then, a drop catch.I don’t think we’re looking too at it.Sure, he himself was disappointed because it was a catch that could have been turned over.”
“But again, if you were to see his confidence in the last bout, he nailed that yorker quite efficiently to take Asif Ali out.This is a sign that the case that if he was down and out if you’re not mentally prepared the execution won’t happen.However, in the case of Rohit, he came out confident to do the job.In reality, he just ran into his home and grabbed the ball because he wanted the ball to be bowled by him.” added Rohit.
