New Delhi, Sep 6 : India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar is not happy with Virat Kohli’s remarks that only former captain MS Dhoni texted him after he quit his Test captaincy in January of this year.with the former legend declaring that the people “who did not contact him in contact should have also be named”.After India’s defeat to Pakistan in the thrilling Asia Cup Super Four game on September 4, Kohli in the post-match press conference took everyone off guard by stating, “When I left Test captaincy I received a message from one person I’ve played with previously and that was MS Dhoni.
“Many users have my contact number and there are a lot of people who are constantly offering suggestions on the television and I didn’t get an email from one of them.
When an interaction with anyone is genuine it is revealed in this way as there is a feeling of security for both parties.I don’t would ever want anything from him nor does he would like to receive anything from me.I was never worried of him and neither did he not confident of me,” Kohli added.
Gavaskar suggested Kohli mention the people who didn’t get in contact with Kohli after he removed himself as captain of the Test team, since it’s “a fairness to everyone involved”.
Gavaskar also stated that he was not aware of the atmosphere in the dressing room and also why Kohli chose to hold the after-match press conference in order to disclose such specifics.
“I do not know what the dressing-room situation was with the other players, but I believe it is best should he is identified as the only person who was in contact, perhaps those who did not get in contact should also been identified. That is a more fair to everyone involved rather than assuming that everyone else did not get in contact with him.” Gavsakar told India Today.
Kohli was forced to step down as T20I captain following India’s poor ICC T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE last year.Kohli was Delhi player was later removed of his ODI captaincy, and he quit the Test captaincy in January of this year.
Kohli also said after his 44-ball 60 in an unsuccessful match against Pakistan that if anyone was looking in helping him the way they could, they would have approached him directly.
“If the criticisms were genuine they could have contacted me in person.Since I lead my life with sincerity, I’d have had a conversation one-on one with an individual I wanted to assist.”
