Gandhinagar 5th September : The members of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) have issued a plea for an ‘uniform’ in Gujarat’s capital city Gandhinagar on the morning of Monday.Since the beginning of the week, BKS members have been protesting and requesting that the government of Gujarat take care of the ongoing concerns of farmers in Gujarat.
But, to date, the state government has not invited the BKS leaders for a discussion or offered any assurance to meet the demands of farmers.
Gujarat BKS General Secretary Ramesh Patel told IANS, “We appeal to the citizens as well as traders of Gandhinagar and the rural areas to show their support to the farmers’ demand for an unofficial bandh to be observed on the Monday.
Because the BKS doesn’t have a large base of support in Gandhinagar There are no plans to shut down roads towards the city, or even the state Secretariat. The bandh will remain restricted to business and trade.”
The principal requirement of the BKS is that consumers in the agriculture sector regardless of whether they are with connections to horses or metre connections , should be charged at the same rate but the tariffs currently in place are not equal. The farmers also demand electricity for 12 hours.
Invoking the story of the farmers protests of 1987 State BKS President Jagmal Arya has stated that in 1987, the BJP joined with the BKS even though the Congress was in the powerhouse in the state. The Congress misused power and 18 farmers died in police firings and it is fighting to regain the power in the state, he added.
If the BJP did not take note of the demands of the farmers, BJP too will have to endure the same fate similar to Congress.Congress, Arya said.
