Hyderabad Sep 4 : Megastar K.Chiranjeevi has revealed that he created the Chiranjeevi Blood Bank as he was moved by the deaths of several people because of a shortage of blood in 1998.
In a statement, he said he had many admirers who were willing to give anything to his cause, he said he wanted to utilize the love and affection he has received to benefit the lives of people.

Chiranjeevi spoke at a function at Raj Bhavan, where Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan felicitated and distributed life insurance policies for free to those who donated blood more than 50 times to the Chiranjeevi Eye and Blood Bank.

The actor said that to date, 9.30 lakh units of blood have been collected.70 percent of this was distributed to the less fortunate free of cost, while the rest was given to private hospitals.

He said that the issue of blood shortages is being solved to a large degree in the two Telugu states.

Chiranjeevi has revealed that between 2,000 and 3,000 people regularly donate blood.He declared that the “Chiru Bhadratha’ initiative was launched by the Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust (CCT) to offer security to donors.

Under the scheme, every frequent blood donor was insured for 7 lakh rupees and the premium was borne by the trust.

The Governor in her address, stated that blood donation was an ideal cause.

She mentioned that , when she was the surgeon in residence even relatives of patients were hesitant to donate blood.

She applauded Chiranjeevi Charitable Trust for immense efforts in collecting 9,30,000 units of blood and 4,480 pairs of eyes.

Thanking Chiranjeevi for being an inspiration and the brand ambassador of blood donation she stated that this was the first time in history that this is done by any film actor in India to encourage their fans to support an noble cause for the improvement of society.

She explained that the blood donation program was being carried out by Raj Bhavan.

A mobile app has been created to ensure that the people who need it receive the blood on time.She asked the CCT to be an integral part of the initiative.
