New York, Sep 3 : Australian Nick Kyrgios was a breeze through the US Open fourth round for the first time in his career, beating American JJ Wolf 6-2 and 6-3 in an eminently lopsided win in order to get a meeting against the top seed and the defending champion Daniil Medvedev of Russia.The 23rd seed Kyrgios was an earlier Wimbledon finalist last year, was able to fend off the seven break points he faced and needed one hour and 54 minutes to beat the American at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, and must beat the big Russian to make his first appearance in the quarterfinals.
Medvedev was on the court following the intense three-hour final of Serena Williams and Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic in Arthur Ashe Stadium and defeated Wu Yibing of China 6-4, 7-2, 6-2 to make it to the second week of the season for the fourth time in a row.year.
“It was a very difficult game for me to win,” Kyrgios said.”I was aware that JJ is the favorite of the home crowd and I knew I needed to be in the game today and play with a high level of skill.I’m just so happy to be able to go forward.I’m extremely looking forward to playing Medvedev,” Kyrgios was quoted by atptour.com.
Three weeks prior to that, Kyrgios had extended his ATP head-to head advantage over Medvedev to 3-1 after he beat Medvedev Russian in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal, Canada.
Kyrgios who improves to 34-9 this year and is now 13-2 since his debut Grand Slam final at the All England Club, has already climbed three places this week and is now No.22 in the ATP Live Rankings.If he makes it to the quarterfinals, 27-year-old Kyrgios is expected to be in the top 20 for the first time since February of 2020.

Wolf who was able to defeated 16th seed Roberto Bautista Agut on day one, matched his career-high Grand Slam result by reaching the third round in New York.
“At the US Open, this is the furthest I’ve been so it’s a very special year for me I hope to keep up,” Kyrgios said.
