St.John’s (Antigua) 2 September : West Indies’ vice-captain Anisa Mohammed on Friday taken an absence from international cricket for the duration of six months.Cricket West Indies (CWI) stated that the veteran off-spinner had asked to withdraw from the sport with immediate effect following an extremely busy year of cricket both at home and away.
“Cricket has offered me everything that I’ve ever had, and I am in love with it just as I did the day I began playing, which is why this choice was not easy for me, particularly with the T20 World Cup five months away.But, I have to be mindful of my body and to my mind that I should get away from cricket at this point.”

“This isn’t a permanent goodbye, but rather a see you soon.I wish the team the best in the upcoming series and I’m sure Hayley will be able to fulfill her role as captain, having observed her improve as a person as well as a player,” stated Anisa in the official announcement from the CWI.

Anisa made her debut in the international cricket of the West Indies at the age of 13 in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Holland in 2003.Through many years, she established herself as the best spin bowler for the West Indies, going on to become the first player, male or female, to take 100 T20I wickets.She also became the top wicket-taker in the format with 125 scalps in 117 games, with an average of 17.64.In 141 ODIs she has taken 180 wickets, with an average of 20.75.

She was last in the 2022 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup earlier in the year in New Zealand, where West Indies reached the semi-finals.Because of her break, she is well in position to not be able to participate in the Women’s World Cup in South Africa next year and also the coming white-ball series against New Zealand at home.
