Panaji 1st, September : In reference to the incidents of the alleged murder of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat, as well as an incident of firing in which the worker who was working on sand extraction was killed in Curchorem in South Goa, Congress’ Goa unit chief Amit Patkar on Thursday declared “Goa is now a an un-lawful state”. “Law and order have completely fallen apart in the state.
Sand mining was illegally taking place in Curchorem and (at the site) one person was killed.The Chief Minister must immediately arrest the people who are involved in the crime.” Patkar said.
“I would like to know from the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant what actions will environment minister Nilesh Cabral take on this (illegal extraction of sand) in the sense that Curchorem is represented by him” he said.
A Sand extraction worker from Jharkhand was killed and another was seriously injured in an incident of firing on Wednesday evening at Curchorem in South Goa.
Congress Working President and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao said that failure of the BJP government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to regulate sand mining activities and encourage the illegal extraction of sand has resulted in the shocking Curchorem incident.
Yuri Alemao came down heavily on the BJP government, saying it is attempting to encourage illegal activities in the mining of sand and laterite.
“Rampant destruction of the environment is in full of full in Goa.The government is consciously refusing to acknowledge the mafias and mafias in operation in Goa.It’s regrettable that the BJP government isn’t able to offer security and safety to Goans during celebrations,” Yuri Alemao said.
“It is because of the stance of the reckless BJP government that the law-and-order situation in Goa has been deteriorating to a point that criminals are not deterred from engaging in criminal acts in the open.There is no need to be concerned about the repercussions of the police on citizens because the law enforcement authorities have lost credibility due to their role as an instrument of the state,” he said.
“Police officers must act swiftly and capture all those who were who were involved in the incident in Curchorem.I also call on the DGP to examine the reason of the shooting , and to ensure that alleged masterminds are also arrested promptly,” Yuri Alemao said.
