Washington 1st, September : The US does not want Pakistan to decide between the two countries, China instead, it wants nations “to have the ability to make the option of choosing” according to the media report.Yet, Washington is worried that nations that are forming relationships with China “are not likely to be able to come out well”, Dawn news quoted Derek Chollet, a senior advisor to the US Secretary of State, as saying.
In an interview with Dawn, Chollet said Washington was not “afraid of competing with China however, they would like to see an equal competition”.
He said that the US had genuine disagreements with both India and Pakistan However, the US was determined to keep and strengthen its friendship with Islamabad, Dawn reported.
Chollet also addressed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s claims of US involvement in the downfall of his government, while pointing out that these assertions were totally untrue.
When asked whether the US was unhappy with Khan and whether the allegations cause him to be a less popular as a politician in the US, Chollet told Dawn news: “All I can say is that there is no truth to the claims.These are not true.
“What we’d like to keep focussed on is the direction we’re going in the relationship between the US and Pakistan and to look back on the things we have accomplished in 75 years, and also what we have to accomplish in the next 75 years.”
The US official also emphasized Washington’s concern over the floods currently raging in Pakistan by pointing out that the administration of President Joe Biden had already declared 30 million dollars in assistance and was prepared to provide more.
