VCK calls on Stalin to stop violence against Dalits

Chennai 31 August : Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is an opposition political party of Dalits, has asked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin to take a firm stance against those who participate in brutality against the community.
In an announcement, VCK founder leader and MP Thol Thirumavalavan stated that state police had been inactive in taking actions to stop the perpetrators of violent Dalit attacks.

He added that there was a rise in attacks on Dalits in 2021 according to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) information.

The VCK chief claimed that the former AIADMK government was insensitive in taking steps against those who vilify Dalits and urged Stalin to take a firm stance against those who were involved in Dalit violence.

He stated that 1,144 instances of atrocities committed against Dalits in Tamil Nadu were filed in 2019 and in 2020, it grew to 1,274, and in 2021, the number jumped up to 1,377.

In 2021 53 Dalits were killed and attempted murders to take the lives of another 61 were also attempted, Thirumavalavan said, adding that even though Tamil Nadu ranked fifth in the attacks on the community in the nation in 2020, as per NCRB data, it 7th in 2021.

He stated that a number of cases involving Dalit atrocities weren’t investigated under the earlier AIADMK regime and urged Stalin to instruct the police to not let up in the investigation.

Thirumavalavan further claimed that the attitude of the police was the main cause for Dalit attacks.
