By Ashe O Houston the 29th of August, : US space agency NASA on Monday scrubbed the historical Artemis I mission to the Moon due to leaks in the fuel.
It was set to launch on Monday in the timeframe of 8.33 a.m.until 10.33 a.m.(local time) to launch an Orion capsule with three test dummies to the moon and back to the Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.NASA’s first unmanned spacecraft to the Moon in the past 50 years since 1972.
NASA has reportedly changed the next launch window for Friday, based on the rocket’s capabilities.
The forecast was to be mostly cloudy with some storms here and there , but sufficient for the launch of the rocket however, fuel leaks caused the cancellation of the launch. The countdown began on Sunday.
Its massive Space Launch System rocket is believed to be NASA’s most powerful when launched. The teams that countdown of NASA were given two options for a launch with a two-hour time – 8:33 a.m.until 10:33 a.m.Eastern, but decided not to launch, USA Today reported.
NASA’s Artemis I launch is part of the larger space program that will take astronauts back to the moon after 2025.A first round trip test mission is scheduled set to happen in approximately 42 days, USA today reported.
In an official tweet, NASA announced that Artemis I Launch “is currently in an unplanned stop as the team investigates the problem with engine 3 on the core stage. The leaks of fuel could force postponement.
Presumably, fuel leaks in the final preparations for the liftoff could cause the launch being cancelled Monday”.
NASA was involved in the stop and start procedure to fuel the rockets of Artemis I with nearly 1 million gallons of super-cold oxygen and hydrogen because of leaks. The fueling process was already behind schedule by about an hour because of storms in Florida’s Kennedy Space Center.
It’s a coincidence that Monday’s leak of hydrogen, a highly explosive gas, was discovered in the same location that saw the formation of a slurry during a drill in spring.Another hydrogen leak was discovered in the valve that had caused problems in June, even though NASA believed it had fixed the problem, according to officials.
The rocket is said to be the strongest that has been launched in 50 years from 1972.NASA’s Artemis 1 is described as an enormous, far stronger than the previous rockets that were launched from the Florida Space Coast in decades. The Orange core stage surrounded by solid rocket boosters in bright white makes it visually distinctive.
Its height is also impressive at 322 feet, which is about the same height as a 30 story construction, USA Today said.
At least 100,000 people were expected to fill the zones surrounding Kennedy Space Center for the mission. In case of delays two alternative dates on September 2 at 12.48 p.m.and September 5 at 5.12 p.m.EDT The backups are available. The launch was live streamed from Houston to millions in America on its website, but people were disappointed by the scrubbing.
