Kolkata 29 August : The three-time Trinamool Congress MLA and the West Bengal minister of state for the department of consumer affairs, Srikant Mahata has been removed from office and given a show-cause by his party following an online video went viral in which he was accused of questioning the morality and credibility of the top leaders in the group.In the wake of the show-cause notice the minister has reportedly pulled back his statement, and has also apologized for the statement.
“Leaders such as Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan and June Malia and Saayoni Ghosh are stealing money.They are however being viewed as assets of the party.I’ve been trying to convey this message to our top leaders such as Abhishek Banerjee as well as Subrata Bakshi.However, they were unable to acknowledge the fact that” Mahata was said in the viral video.
All are well-known characters of the Bengali silver screen and television serial circuits.
In addition, Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan are Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha members from Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies, respectively.
Malia is an elected MLA from the Midnapore Assembly constituency.On the other the other hand, Saayoni Ghosh is the state president of the Trinamool Congress’s youth section in West Bengal.
After the video was made viral, the leaders who he mentioned brought it to the attention of the party’s leadership which promptly reprimanded him and also issued a show cause notice.
In the end, Mahata backtracked and withdrew his statement, as reported by the Trinamool Congress’s West Midnapore district coordinator, Ajit Maiti.”Mahata has now withdrawn his statement and apologized for his actions.He has clarified that he made the statements because he was motivated by emotions,” Maiti.
Mahata’s apology has not eased the anger of the celebrities he he mentioned.According to Malia Mahata, he would be cautious about the remarks he makes, considering that he is not only an elected legislator, but also minister.”I am glad that the leadership of the party removed him from office and I am hoping that in the future he will not make comments like this”,’ she said.
Jahan did not believe Mahata’s assertions and claimed that it’s the decision of the citizens of the state to determine whether someone is an asset or isn’t.”We are in the political arena to serve people only.My philosophy is to do more work and talk more,” she said.
This isn’t the first time elected members of Trinamool Congress from the famous world have been subject to criticism.Before, questions were asked about the poor performance of the famous MLAs and MPs with regards to their participation in the Assembly and Parliamentary debates.
The criticisms have now begun to come from inside the party.
