Cairo 28 August : The Egyptian, US and Spanish navy members participated in an exercise jointly within the area of Egypt’s Northern Fleet in the Mediterranean Sea as reported by the Egyptian military on Saturday. Ships of the US and Spanish naval forces were part in the joint exercises following the visit of Egypt’s Alexandria Naval Base, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the statement of Egyptian military spokesperson Gharib Abdel-Hafez.
The training, which ran for over several days, was executed by Egypt’s multi-mission Gowind corvette ENS El Fateh, US missile destroyer USS Forrest Sherman and Spanish frigate ESPS Almirante Juan De Borbon the report said.
Apart from other naval combat exercises The drills also included “training on homogeneous working within a joint duty unit with the responsibility of with the responsibility of protecting maritime security and tackling threats that could impact global trade and the freedom of navigation in areas of common concern,” according to the statement.
It further stated that Egypt conducted these drills to strengthen collaboration between Egyptian Armed Forces and their counterparts in other nations, “which contributes to supporting maritime security and stability.”
