Bengaluru 24 Aug : The Special Court for Peoples Representatives in Bengaluru on Wednesday requested police officers from the Karnataka police to hand over all documents related to the contractor’s suicide case in which the former minister K S Eshwarappa is the principal suspect.The family of Santhosh Patil, the contractor from Belagavi who committed suicide in protest of a demand for a 40 percent commission in contract work by the aides of Eshwarappa and has raised doubts about the legal document that was handed to him in the court.
Prashanth Patil, a cousin brother of Santhosh Patil, has submitted a petition challenging the validity of the clean chit issued to Eshwarappa by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The court has instructed the Udupi city police, who conducted an investigation into the incident and gave an official chit Eshwarappa to ensure the submission of documents by the 17th of September.
The counsel for petitioner KBN Swamy declared that there are no documents attached to the report in the suicide case.He sought direction in this direction for the police department to provide all documents.
The court complied with the request and asked the police to file the documents, preferably those that they haven’t included in the final report.
Swamy later said to reporters that the final report about the suicide is not complete.
After confirming the documents objections will be made.
Prashanth Patil has stated that he was not in agreement with the”clean chit” that was given to Eshwarappa.”My brother has been slapped with injustice because police have conducted investigations to assist the suspects.”
“The court has requested the submission of any evidence at all, including information on the movement of my brother, information from his mobile, a call list, and CCTV footage relating to the suicide case,” he said.
The petition claims that SIT investigators have submitted B-report (closure report due to the absence of evidence) under the influence of political pressure and requested the court to assign the case to an unrelated agency.
The Karnataka police had filed an investigation report in connection with the suicide case.
After the demise of Santhosh Patil, then Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Eshwarappa was forced to step down of the cabinet.
The Congress party, which had launched an attack on the BJP government calling for the demotion and detention of Eshwarappa and was adamant in the connection with the publication of the closing report.
State Congress president D K Shivakumar declared that the BJP government is trying to hide corruption charges against its leaders.
He claimed that in the course of investigation the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who was the former CM B S Yediyurappa and the Home Minister Araga Jnanendra, and Home Minister Araga accused Eshwarappa an unclean chit.
Opposition leader Siddaramaiah has stated that Santhosh Patil had left a note that stated that Eshwarappa is the sole reason for his demise.In the end, Eshwarappa was not questioned and never investigated.
Jayashree who is the wife of Santhosh Patil, had submitted a letter to Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot listing her concerns about the CBI investigation.She declared that they would be in touch with the court in connection with the conclusion of the case and demanded to investigate of the matter by the CBI.
Santhosh Patil committed suicide in April 2022.His suicide note stated that he was going to end his life due to the fact that he cannot pay a 40 percent commission for the Rs 4 crore worth of work he did.He was adamant that he held Eshwarappa responsible for the drastic step.
