Djokovic’s decision to not be vaccinated against Covid-19 resulted in he has missed chances this season to increase his record. The 9-time Australian Open champion was unable to play in Melbourne and could be absent from the US Open, although he recently stated that he has his “fingers crossed” for the U.S.Open.
According to an article in Forbes.com According to Forbes.com, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) requires anyone who is not a US citizen to “show evidence of having been fully vaccination-free against Covid-19” prior to flying from an overseas country.
The ruling barred Djokovic from participating in ATP Masters 1000 events at Indian Wells and Miami in March and April as well with the last week’s Cincinnati Open.
There was a rumor that he could be able participate in New York after the CDC earlier this month relaxed a number of Covid regulations in the U.S.
“In the coming weeks, CDC will work to align its standalone guidance documents, including the ones specifically for health care settings as well as congregate settings that are at greater risk of transmission and travel with the latest updated version,” the organisation said.
