Mumbai 23 August : India cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has been found to be positive for COVID-19.This puts his participation in the Asia Cup, scheduled to begin in the UAE starting on August 27th, in doubt.A press release issued by the Indian cricket board confirmed the news, writing, “Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has been tested positive for COVID-19 in an routine test that was conducted prior to the date of the departure of the team to the UAE for the Asia Cup 2022.
“Mr.
Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms.He will be joining the team after he returns with an absence of COVID-19.The remainder of the team is scheduled to be gathered in UAE on the 23rd August, 2022.”
Dravid was scheduled to fly to Dubai on Tuesday (August 23) however, the positive result of his test puts his participation to play in the Asia Cup in jeopardy, at least for the early phases of the competition.
In the absence of him, VVS Laxman, the director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) could be in charge of the Indian team, as per ICC.
This isn’t the first time Laxman has played in the place of Dravid.Laxman was the former Indian batter was in the helm of the Indian team during their away T20I assignment in Ireland and was in the team during the recent ODI series in Zimbabwe which India won 3-1.
Dravid will be in charge of the team when he recovers.The Asia Cup is set to close on the 11th of September.
India will begin the campaign against Pakistan on the 28th of August and they will play their next game against an opponent in a qualifying match on August 31.
