Khartoum 23 August : The death number of people killed by the heavy rainfall and the resulting flooding in Sudan has risen to 83 according to the Sudan’s National Council for Civil Defence announced.In the meantime, more than 18,000 houses were destroyed , and more than 25,000 were damaged in the affected areas as per a statement by the council in an announcement on Monday.
The Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources warned in an announcement that the levels of water of the Blue Nile and White Nile rivers are likely to increase again in the next two days, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Ministry of Health urged those who live near the two rivers, especially in Khartoum, the capital Khartoum to take the appropriate precautions.
The river in Sudan have recorded the highest level since 1946 according to the Ministry of Water.
On Sunday the Sudanese Council of Ministers declared the emergency state of emergency in the six states that have been hit by flooding of River Nile, Gezira, White Nile, West Kordofan, South Darfur and Kassala.
A total of 136,000 people were impacted by the flooding and torrential rains that have swept throughout Sudan since June according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Sudan often experiences floods caused by heavy rains in the months of June until October.
