New Delhi, Aug 22 : The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) paramedical students, who had been protesting for the past 10 days over hostel accommodation they ended their protest Monday evening.
Students were protesting against the allocation of hostel space in the hospital premises since the hostel facilities had been shut down in 2019.
The students were on hunger strike for the last four days.
On Monday an paramedical student Shivika Dhingra, a paramedical student, told IANS that she has three demands to the hospital’s administration.
These included payment in the event of the death of the student who died because of the inaccessibility of the hostel within the hospital premises, and was forced to live outside.
The second request was that the hostel facilities accessible in the hospital’s premises to paramedical students.
Thirdly, the discrimination between paramedical students and MBBS students should be stopped.
However, following a having a meeting with the administration on Monday night students have decided to end their protest.
A paramedical student Gagan Kumar Sharma said that the AIIMS administration has accepted all of their requests in the meeting that was held on Monday, and the students have resigned from the protest.
Students from the paramedical program of the AIIMS began to protests against hospital officials following the passing of one student of paramedical optometry.
The students who protested claimed that the cause of death was the carelessness of the hospital’s administration and that if the hospital could have allowed them to stay in the accommodation within the facilities of the hospital, the student’s life could have been saved.
