Guwahati 21 August : Guwahati, Aug 21 : Ministers’ meeting on border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya, which took place here on Sunday, resolved to establish three regional committees to resolve disputes in six border areas between the two states of northeastern India.Officials confirmed that the 9th Chief Minister-level summit between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad K.Sangma decided that the committees proposed will be led by the cabinet ministers of each state, along with members from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council as three of the sites in dispute are under the area of jurisdiction of the council.
Within 15 days, the two the state governments will notify regional committees and the members of the committees would make lengthy visits to the dispute regions and talk to the local residents to figure an amicably agreed solution.
In a gesture of goodwill and confidence building measure Both Chief Ministers will also visit the sites that are in dispute and speak with the locals.
In the Sunday’s meeting, Sarma, thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, said that following solving the six boundary disputes in the initial phase other boundary disputes could be resolved with a sense of humor under their guidance.
Assam Chief Secretary of Assam Jishnu Baruah as well as his Meghalaya counterpart D.P.Wahlang and other top officers of both states attended the meeting.
In the first phase after a string of meetings, discussions as well as visits to disputable sites The MoU was signed on the 29th of March in the presence of the Union Home Minister in New Delhi paving the way to resolving the six sites that are in dispute.

The most brutal violence ever witnessed across the 164.6-km-long Assam-Mizoram frontier, on the 26th of July last year, saw six Assam Police personnel dead and close to 100 civilians as well as security officers of both states wounded.
