Moscow 20 August : Washington has doomed Europe to cold, hunger and isolation, according to Vyacheslav Volodin, the Chairman of Russia’s lower house of parliament known as the State Duma.The US sells gas to Europe which is being hit by record inflation at a much higher cost that in the US market, thereby reducing the competitiveness of the European Union economies, Volodin wrote on Telegram on Friday.
The unusual temperatures in Europe has impacted the agriculture sector severely and harvests were much smaller than 2021, while power problems have resulted in increases in the cost of electricity, he noted as quoted by Xinhua news agency report.
The pressure came from Washington that certain European states have resisted Russian energy, cut off trade relations with Russia and have barred the entry of Russian citizens into their countries, Volodin stated.
“Washington is prepared to do anything to preserve its dominance across the globe, even sacrificing for it the wellbeing of citizens and the economics of European nations,” he added.
