Chennai 16 August : The family of the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam, who stands exiled from the AIADMK and has given two cheques of about Rs 25 lakh each for each to the Additional Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, N.Muruganandam, for contribution to the assistance of Sri Lanka.OPS Panneerselvam, as he is commonly referred to, had declared in the state Assembly on April 29 that he would contribute a sum of 50 lakh rupees in assistance to Sri Lanka.
The two sons of OPS, Theni MP P.Ravindranath and V.P.Jayapradeep handed the cheques to the Additional Chief Secretary N.Muruganandam, who is in charge of the department of finance.
It is worth noting that OPS is fighting for a fight of the existence in the AIADMK with his betenoire and former Chief Minister Edappadi K.Palaniswami who is currently acting as the acting general secretary of the AIADMK.
OPS was exiled in an all-council meeting of the AIADMK that took place on the 11th of July in Chennai.
OPS According to party insiders has been working to make an alliance with V.K.Sasikala to create an Thevar grouping to re-enter to the fold of the party.
A number of Thevar groups had released statements stating that OPS, an OPS Thevar is excluded in the party , and EPS was an Goundar who was taking the control of the AIADMK.
The Thevar community is a popular backer base of the AIADMK and if the Thevar community is disengaged, it could impact the election prospects of the party in Tamil Nadu where the Thevar community is a major influencer.
