Mumbai 16 August : The Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Tuesday expressed shock and sorrow over the sudden death of Amitabh Choudhary, the former BCCI acting secretary.an experienced administrator and an outstanding IPS officer.
Amitabh Choudhary died of an attack on his heart in Ranchi early on Tuesday morning.He was 62 years old.
BCCI The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, BCCI President said “I am sad and shocked to hear of the tragic demise of Mr.Amitabh Choudhary.I had a long and enduring relationship with him and always enjoyed our meetings.I met him during the tour of Zimbabwe during the time I was the leader of India and he was Team Manager.

“Over the course of time, our friendship increased and his enthusiasm for the game was evident.Today we have a world-class complex and stadium in Ranchi and it’s due to his determination and vision.

Jharkhand has made its way to the top of the list in an incredibly short time.I am certain he will be delighted as more of the state’s cricketers are playing for India.My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends in this moment of sadness.”

Choudhary was one of the IIT Kharagpur alumni, is recognized for his role in changing the cricket landscape in Jharkhand and also for establishing the infrastructure needed to promote the game of cricket for the grassroots in Jharkhand.

After serving as the Chief of the Superintendent of Police, Choudhary veered towards cricket, his enduring passion.He was also the President of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association.

He did his best to fulfill his goal of having an ultra-modern facility in Jharkhand and to make Ranchi a pulsating cricketing hub.

During his time during his tenure, during his tenure, the International Cricket Stadium was ready and fitted with modern facilities in under four years .It hosted its first international game that was an ODI between India and England in January 2013.With a flair with many talents, he was appointed as manager of the India U19 team in 2003, and then the team’s senior squad in the year following.

He was a variety of roles in BCCI serving as an official member of the IPL Governing Council in 2013 as Jt.Secretary of Junior Cricket Committee, Umpire Sub Committee, Vizzy Trophy Committee, NCA Board and Entertainment Committee in 2014-2015.After the 85th AGM of the Board, he was elected as the Honorary Jt.Secretary in 2015 and later appointed the Acting Secretary of the BCCI.BCCI.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “I am in total shock and disbelief to hear about the passing of Mr.Amitabh Choudhary.In his capacity as an administrator, he was extremely dedicated and wanted to see an actual transformation at the grassroots.

Cricket in Jharkhand was still in its early stages when he assumed the helm and we have seen an incredible transformation under his direction.He was in charge of important BCCI posts during a difficult period and managed the ship very well.

The topics of our conversations were often playing and management and he always spoke with plenty of enthusiasm.My thoughts are with his family and friends.May God grant them the strength to bear the loss.”

BCCI Treasurer of BCCI, Arun Singh Dhumal stated “It is a difficult day for everyone of us the BCCI with the tragic loss of an enthusiastic cricket administrator.From the beginning, Amitabh Choudhary Ji was determined to develop cricket in Jharkhand and during his time as JSCA President he was able to ensure that a large amount of development activities were carried out in the state.Ranchi is now an enviable field with green hills and grass banks, and was constructed in just a few months.

The state’s cricketers are now making a mark across all age groups and benefiting from the upgraded infrastructure that was put in the place.The BCCI recognizes his contribution and it is a major loss.My deepest condolences to his family and his friends.”
