Berlin 15 August : Germany’s Davis Cup team will be in a position to bring in Alexander Zverev, the star player of the team, for their group stage matches next month , as the world’s second-ranked player continues to recover from an injury.Zverev hasn’t played since he injured his ankle during the French Open in early June and following surgery is in doubt for the US Open, which takes place right before the Davis Cup.
Germany captain Michael Kohlmann said he was “very confident” the 25-year old Olympic champion Zverev will be available to his country, but acknowledged that there were “a couple of questions” regarding the possibility of his playing in the grand final slam of the tournament.
Oscar Otte, Jan-Lennard Struff and the doubles specialists Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz were also selected for the team.
Germany will play France (September 14), Belgium (September 16) and Australia (September 18) in Zverev’s hometown of Hamburg with the top two teams making it to the finals in November in Malaga.
