Padma Lakshmi hopes for ‘swift healing’ for her ex-husband Salman Rushdie

Los Angeles, Aug 15 : Indian American model TV host writer and activist Padma Lakshmi sent her good wishes to her ex-husband and writer from India Salman Rushdie as he recoves from serious injuries he sustained from stabbing.
Lakshmi who was the wife of the author between 2004 until 2007 posted on Twitter on the 14th of August two days following the incident “Relieved SalmanRushdie is thriving following Friday’s nightmare.Confused and in a state of silence, I is finally able to breathe.I’m hoping for quick healing,” reports eonline.com.

The day that Padma made her statement Salman’s agent informed E! News that Salman’s “road towards recovery is beginning,” adding: “It isn’t easy because the injuries are very severe however, his condition is moving in the right direction.”

In addition, Salman’s oldest son, Zafar Rushdie, 42 released an announcement in behalf of the family regarding his father’s death.

“My father is in critically ill in hospital and receiving ongoing medical attention,” he said.

“We are extremely happy that on the 11th of May he was removed from the ventilator and given oxygen.Afterwards, he could speak some words.Although his life-altering injuries are serious however, his usual feisty and determined sense of humor is still intact.”

On the 12th of August Rushdie was about to deliver a speech at a function at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY, when a man ran up to the stage, and then stabbed him around 12 times in his neck, face and chest the official from the district attorney’s office spoke to NBC News.

The victim was transported by air to a hospital, and the suspect was detained and accused with assault and attempted murder.

Zafar added: “We are so grateful to all the viewers who bravely jumped to his defense and provided first aid as well with the doctors and police who have taken care of him.We are also grateful for the outpouring of love and support from all over the globe.We ask for your continued patience and privacy as the entire family gathers at his bedside to comfort and assist him through this difficult time.”

Padma was the fourth wife of Rushdie.He had previously been married to Zafar’s mother Clarissa Luard Elizabeth West, with whom he has a son aged 23, Milan Rushdie, and Marianne Wiggins.

The suspect in the stabbing, New Jersey man Hadi Matar has pleaded to plead guilty to allegations of attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the second degree.
