Mumbai 15th August : The creators of the biographical online series “Rocket Boys” have revealed a new season of the show via an exclusive Independence Day promo.Producer and creator of the series Nikkhil Avani posted a post on his Instagram and posted the video, which he said in the caption: “Milestones.Architects.Let’s not forget. The countdown starts with #RocketBoysSeason2 (sic).”
The video shows glimpses of the Pokhran village of Rajasthan prior to the time when the Republic of India conducted its first nuclear bomb test in 1974.It builds anticipation of the test through images of the sandstorm, the banging of windows and a vehicle trapped in the sand, before cutting to the blast , and then the casting reveal for the second season.
The actors Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh will reprise their roles of India’s nuclear and space programme pioneers – Nobel Prize winner Homi Jehangir Bhabha and Padma Vibhushan awardee Vikram Sarabhai, along with the cast of other actors like Regina Cassandra and Saba Azad.
The very first nuclear bomb test was carried out in India in 1974 in Pokhran under the Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, whose enjoyed a heightened popularity following the tests. The Ministry of External Affairs, who declared the test as Pokhran-I later described the test as an “peaceful nuclear blast”.
Also known as Operation Smiling Buddha The test resulted in India being the first country to conduct an nuclear test outside of five of the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.India began its own nuclear program in 1944, when Homi Jehangir Bhabha established the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
But, the nuclear program was somewhat slowed down after Lal Bahadur Shastri became Prime Minister. In the aftermath of the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965, Shastri appointed the physicist Vikram Sarabhai as the chief of the nuclear program.
However due to of his non-violent Gandhian convictions, Sarabhai steered the program towards peaceful purposes, instead of military development.
Another successful nuclear test took place in 1998, under the title Pokhran-II in which the series of five nuclear explosions were conducted.
The John Abraham-starring action film “Parmanu The Story of Pokhran’ is an adaptation of the events that led upto Pokhran-II.
