Beijing 12 August : Do you want to lower your chance of becoming a victim of dementia? Enjoy in activities like reading a book or doing yoga, and spend time with your family and friends, according to an upcoming study.
It was published in the journal Neurology the meta-analysis, which included the review of 38 studies all over the world that included an average of over 2 million individuals who didn’t have dementia found that leisure activities are associated with a lower chance of the neurodegenerative disorder.

People who participated in leisure activities were at a 17 per cent lower chance of becoming demented than those who didn’t engage in them.

The majority of mental activity consisted of intellectual pursuits and included writing or reading for enjoyment watching television or listening to radio playing games, or playing musical instruments using computers and creating crafts.

Participants in these kinds of activities were 23-per percentage less likelihood of dementia, according to research at Peking University Sixth Hospital in China.

Physical activities include swimming, running, walking cycling and using exercise machines, engaging in yoga, sports and dancing.

Researchers discovered that those who took part in these kinds of activities had a 17-per percent less chance of dementia.

Social activities are generally referred to as activities that involved communicating with others , and included taking classes or joining a social club and volunteering, spending time with family or friends or participating in religious events.

Future studies should incorporate larger sample sizes as well as longer follow-up times to uncover more connections between recreation and dementia” Lu said.

The participants of the study were tracked for at minimum three years.

In the course of the study, 74,700 people were diagnosed with dementia.

One drawback of the research was that participants reported their own mental and physical activities, and therefore they might not have remembered or accurately reported their activities.
