London 12 August : Explosions on the Saki military airfield in Ukraine’s occupation Crimean Peninsula have significantly weakened the naval aviation of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said on Friday. At at least eight aircraft were damaged or destroyed According to the Ministry’s information update.
“The reduction of eight combat aircrafts is only a small portion of the total number of aircraft Russia can use to help in the war.
“However, Saki was primarily used as a base to the aircraft of the Russian Navy’s Black Sea Fleet,” it reads.
The reason of Tuesday’s explosions is still unclear the report said, but the columns of mushroom-shaped pieces of smoke that are visible on video footage of witnesses were likely to come from four locations where ammunition was kept in a state of non-security.
According to the Ministry the airfield is still usable, despite the extent of damage.
While Russia has dismissed the explosions as unnatural however, top Ukrainian advisor claimed the claim that Kiev was to blame.
It is also likely however that Russia will alter its perception of Crimea’s security.
As of today until now, until now, the Ukrainian peninsula, which has been occupied by Russia in 2014 following an election that the international community considers unlegitimate, was classified as an uninvolved hinterland.
