Manoj Prabhakar takes over as Nepal cricket team’s head coach

Kathmandu 9 August : Former India pace bowler Manoj Prabhakar has been appointed Nepal head coach the Cricket Association of Nepal has stated.
Prabhakar will succeed the 52-year-old ex- Sri Lanka Test wicketkeeper-batter Pubudu Dassanayake, who quit his post and was appointed the head coach of the Canada men’s team.

Prabhakar was an all-round bowler for India and played for the nation in the 169 internationals.He has been head coach of three Ranji Trophy teams, and was the bowling coach in Afghanistan in the year 2016, as per ICC.

The announcement of his appointment was confirmed by an announcement by the Cricket Association of Nepal said, “Former Indian star all-rounder and Ranji trophy-winning coach, Mr.Manoj Prabhakar from India is now the head coach of Nepal National Cricket Team.

“Mr.Prabhakar has played 39 Test matches and 130 One-Day Internationals for India.As a coach he has the experience of coaching of Afghanistan Cricket Team along with Ranji Trophy teams of Delhi, Rajasthan and UP Cricket Association.”

Prabhakar acknowledged that the potential in Nepal cricket has impressed him.”Seeing the passion in cricket in Nepal and their potential and level of skill I’m really excited to be working with the Nepal cricket team to turn them a formidable cricketing team to reckon with.”

Prabhakar’s appointment is coming at a crucial moment in Nepal cricket.The team has struggled in international cricket of the past few months, and missed out on qualifying for 2022’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, with Ireland and UAE being eliminated out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A tournament in Oman.

Nepal is currently in the second position, with eight wins in 20 matches in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 table.
