The return of his game was well-constructed, taking breaks of serve in the first game of each set to grab the pace and keep Nishioka on the back foot and chasing throughout the day.

Kyrgios was crowned with 12 aces, compared to Nishioka’s 3, and ended the match exactly as he began the match with the break of serve, as per DPA.

It was the culmination of an event in which he lost only one set in his six matches – versus Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-final to take his first title in singles since the identical event in the year in the year 2019.

A couple of hours later, Kyrgios was back on the court with Sock taking on the doubles final with the duo securing the break points they had to defend.

After a fair beginning, Kyrgios and Sock broke late in the first set and then hit another time to break in the first match of the second set. They went on to serve out with ease without ever allowing Dodig and Krajicek even to reach deuce in their serve.

In doing this, Kyrgios became the first player to sweep both doubles and singles in Washington.

He only held one doubles title prior to this season – at the Lyon Open in 2018, as well as partnering with Sock However, Kyrgios has now won three times in the last eight months, and has emerged victorious with his fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis both at the Australian Open and the Atlanta Open.
