Kiev 7 August, Kiev : Kiev, Aug 7 : Ukrainian army is facing ever-increasing pressure in the eastern part of Donetsk but it has repelled all Russian moves towards Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Slovyansk the Ukrainian General Staff declared.The fighting has been fierce in Bakhmut for a few days, and pro-Russian rebels claimed that fighting had erupted within Bakhmut the previous day, however the claims were not verified as reported by the news agency dpa.
Bakhmut is a tiny town, is thought to be to be the cornerstone of the defense around the last Ukrainian-controlled urban area in the Donbass.
If Bakhmut and the other small towns are destroyed, the route is open for Russian troops to move toward Slovyansk and Kramatorsk.
