New Delhi, Aug 6 : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is grilling Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and his wife Varsha Raut in connection with the Prevention of Money Laundering case that concerns the Patra the land scam in Chawl.
Raut is currently in ED custody, while his wife was summoned be a part of the investigation last Thursday.
Varsha was summoned following a revelation of transactions on her account were discovered.ED will likely question her about the transaction.
Sanjay Raut was on Sunday arrested by the ED after he was found to have omitted several summons.He was taken into ED custody after which he was released by the court.
The ED had earlier interrogated Pune businessman Avinash Bhosale in DHFL Yes Bank case and sources stated that they were planning to question Raut in the same case.
Sources have stated sources said that Patra Chawl’s case of ED is also connected to DHFL case.
In April the ED had seized Raut’s land in connection with the land scam.
A property worth 9 crore of Raut’s associate Pravin Raut and assets worth 2 crore owned by Varsha Raut the wife of Sanjay Raut, were joined by the ED.
Pravin owned eight parcels of land in Alibaug and an apartment that was registered in the name of Varsha Raut, to which they were associated with the.The ED had detained Pravin in connection with the matter.
“We have submitted a charge-sheet in the case against Pravin, Sarang Wadhawan and Rakesh Wadhawan of HDIL and Guru Ashish Construction and others,” said an ED official.
The ED discovered during the investigation that Pravin has allegedly made a payment of an amount of Rs 55 lakh Varsha.
The money was deposited into the account of the bank of Pravin’s wife.
The money was classified as the proceeds of criminality by the ED.
It is also believed that travel costs of Sanjay Raut were paid by Pravin which included his hotel stay as well as tickets for flights.
