Scientists of the Zoological Survey of India have discovered a new species of mammal in the country.Its name is White-cheeked macaque (monkey-like species).
This macaque was first discovered in 2015 in China.
Its existence in India was not previously known.Latest Indian scientists.It was found in the remote Anjou district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Scientists say the discovery happened suddenly.They collected samples of macaque's feces and skin.
When it was tested in a DNA lab, it was found to be a white-cheeked macaque.
Through animal testing and camera trapping they also found a small white-cheeked macaque.
They grabbed it and put it in the house of a local villager.The tribesmen living in Anjou are traditional hunters.
That said it is very rare to find such large animals.Experts say the findings are a success for scientists.
Scientists say new species of mammals are rare these days.
As scientists they themselves have discovered new species of small animals, amphibians and insects but have rarely found large animals.
The number of mammal species in India ranges from 437 to 438.White-cheeked macaques are said to have white cheeks, long, thick hair on the neck, and a longer tail than other macaques.
