Minister KTR urged the Union government to introduce a National Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme similar to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for the urban poor in the country.He wrote a letter to the Center in this regard.
He said that urbanization was increasing on a huge scale in the country.With this, urban poverty is also likely to increase.
KTR said there was a need to increase their sources of income for a qualitative change in the lives of the poor people coming to the cities.
He said it would be possible only when the urban poor were guaranteed employment so that they could receive the minimum necessities.
He demanded that the Center launch a special employment guarantee scheme in the budget in urban areas as well as the rural employment guarantee scheme.To this end, KTR cites recommendations made by organizations such as the CII, as well as the parliamentary-level body in the past.
He noted that already more than 30 per cent of the country’s population resides in towns.KTR asked the Center to introduce this special employment guarantee program in this budget for the urban poor.
To this end, KTR made key references to the Center on issues such as urbanization, urban poverty, and measures to be taken for positive change in the lives of the urban poor.
