India penalized and docked WTC points for slow over-rate during the first Test against South Afri

Dubai, December 31, : .The International Cricket Council (ICC), announced that Team India was fined 20% of the match fee, and given one ICC World Test Championship point (WTC) for having a low over-rate in their first Test in Centurion.
Andrew Pycroft, ICC match referee, imposed this sanction on India after it fell one short of its target.

The ICC released a statement saying that players will be fined 20% of match fees for each over they fail to bowl within the time limit, in accordance to Article 2.22 of its Code of Conduct for Player Support Personnel and Players.

“Aside from that, per Article 16.11 of ICC Men’s World Test Championship Playing Terms, a team is punished one point each for any over-short.India will therefore lose 1 point in their points total for this offense,” the statement added.

Virat Kohli, captain of India, pleaded guilty and agreed to the sanction.There was no formal hearing.

The charge was laid by Umpires Marais Erasmus and Adrian Holdstock.

South Africa was defeated by India in Test 1 at SuperSport Park Centurion, on Thursday.

India took a 1-0 lead in this three-match series.
