New Delhi, December 31, : .Contrary to Virat Kohli’s assertion, Chetan Sharma on Friday stated that all present at the meeting — BCCI officials as well as selectors — asked the Indian cricket captain to reconsider his decision not to resign from the T20I captaincy.Chetan stated that Kohli’s decision to announce just before the 2021 T20 World Cup, in which India will lose its 20-overs captaincy after the tournament was a surprise for selectors as well as the board members present at the meeting.
Virat claimed that Virat had not been asked by the board and the selection committee to reconsider his decision of giving up captaincy for the most short format possible.
It was an unexpected surprise to everyone when the meeting began.”With the World Cup approaching, this news surprised us,” Chetan Sharm said during a virtual conference.
Everyone in the meeting agreed that it was important to think carefully about the decision you made and then we could discuss the matter after the World Cup.It will impact the performance at World Cup, we all agreed.Virat was informed that he should continue to be the captain for the good of the Indian team.
“Everyone there said it — both the selectors and the board members who were present.His fans are his.He is respected if he makes a decision.But back then, everyone asked him to reconsider it.” he said.
After a meeting between them, the chairman of the selection committee mentioned that Kohli gave up T20I captaincy and the selectors needed to make a decision on Kohli’s ODI future.
Virat was called in the afternoon by me as soon the selection committee reached the decision (of one white-ball captain).
We didn’t want Virat to know that it was Test selection.We informed him after the meeting that one white-ball captain would be appointed.
He said that they had enjoyed a great conversation.
Sharma, 55 years old, also acknowledged that Virat Kohli was replaced as skipper by the ODI team after the panel of 33-year-old Virat decided to resign from the T20I captaincy.
“The pickors chose to have one white-ball skipper.Although it was difficult, selectors must make hard decisions.Even while you are making the PlayingXI, it is not easy to make hard decisions.He said that Virat was an important player in our future days and years.
