San Francisco, December 30, : .Google’s self driving unit Waymo has joined forces with Chinese automaker Geely in order to build a fleet all-electric self-driving robotaxis.These companies had announced their partnership earlier in the week, calling production of the vehicles a major part of its commitments to expanding access to sustainable transport.
The company released a statement saying that they have partnered with top automakers around the globe to help them deploy their fully autonomous technology.
Zeekr (Geely’s brand of electric mobility) would design and develop the ride-hailing vehicles at a Swedish facility using “a unique proprietary and open-source mobility structure.”
After the vehicles are shipped to Waymo USA, the autonomous driving technology Waymo Driver will be installed on them.
The firm stated that they are dedicated to increasing access to sustainable transport and that the deployment of fully-autonomous, electric ride-hailing cars in the US was an important step to electrify their Waymo One fleet.
The companies are yet to announce when the vehicles will be available for purchase.Waymo posted a blog on its website stating that the vehicles would be included in the Waymo One fleet, “in the coming years.”
