Khartoum : , Sudanese security authorities have declared a curfew for the North Darfur State from 6 p.m.until 5 a.m.(local) to stop looting which has recently begun targeting UN warehouses.According to Xinhua, the indefinite curfew was declared after an emergency meeting of the North Darfur State security committee that took place at the headquarters of the government in El Fasher.It discussed the latest security developments.
On Tuesday night, lootings in large numbers were discovered at the El Fasher warehouses of World Food Program (WFP), as well as headquarters and assets for the UN-African Union Mission (UNAMID)
Abdul-Karim Hamdo, North Darfur State Police Chief, urged residents to observe the curfew in their safety.
Eyewitnesses reported that an armed group of six vehicles with four-wheel drives raided WFP warehouses at El Fasher.They looted food supplies after clashing with security guards.However, no injuries were reported.
On December 26, the UNAMID’s El Fasher logistic base was reported to have been looted.
