The panic spread quickly among the 8-9 employees in the branch. They threatened them with gunpoint and took all cash on the premises.
It was only a few minutes before the alarm could be raised.
Staff from the bank summoned police to assist and rushed Gomare, who was bleeding badly, to Shatabdi Hospital. He later died.
Gomare was a Palghar resident who worked as a contract employee for the SBI branch.
The police believe that the robbers planned their strike as they were nearing closing time with less staff and more surveillance from outside, as the bank is located in an area relatively quiet.
