Seoul, December 27, : , North Korea has begun to offer online education in major universities, as part of its efforts to educate “intellectual type workers”, Pyongyang’s media reported Monday.According to Yonhap News Agency, around 100,000 people are currently registered for online courses in the North, according to Rodong Sinmun’s principal newspaper.
The newspaper reported that North Korea is highlighting its efforts in developing the remote education system to assist workers with “modern science, technology,” which will help them at work.
According to Rodong Sinmun, the North started its first online course in education 10 years ago at Kim Chaek University of Technology.
The number of students who enrolled is steadily increasing.
The newspaper stated that workers are motivated to learn more technology and contribute to their country’s wealth.
Kim Jong-un, North Korean leader has stressed the need for science and technology to self-reliant economic growth despite crippling sanctions on its missile and nuclear programmes.
