Thiruvananthapuram 26 December : .A week after the murder of advocate Ranjith Srivasan, OBC Morcha Secretary for the state BJP, Kerala Police has not been able identify or arrest the perpetrators.Ranjith was a well-known lawyer at the Alappuzha Bar Council, and was a popular face for the BJP in this district.He had contested Alappuzha Assembly election in 2016, and was killed brutally in front his wife, daughter, and mother on December 19.
It was believed that the murder occurred in retaliation for K.S.Shan was a Social Democratic Party of India state secretary on December 18.According to the SDPI, Shan had been accused of being killed by the RSS workers and BJP workers.
All the suspects in the murder of the SDPI leader were arrested.However, Kerala Police is still in dark about Ranjith’s killers and has been criticised from all sides.
K.Surendran, President of Kerala BJP, told IANS that “the Kerala Police has become dormant, inefficient and the killers advocate Ranjith Srinivasan were still at large, and it seems like the SDPI criminals get protection from the top.What other way can you explain the inefficiency and corruption of police? One week has passed since the death of this prominent advocate in open daylight at his residence.These criminals should be arrested immediately by the Kerala Police to bring justice.”
IANS also reported that the Congress strongly condemned the “lethargy” of the state police.K.Sudhakaran, the president of state Congress said to IANS: “Why is Kerala Police so lethargic when arresting criminals who committed a horrible murder in open daylight in Alappuzha’s heart?”
However, the police claim that they were going to capture the murderers and will be taking all the accused into custody.
Vijay Sakhare (additional director general of police), who is responsible for the investigation, said that the state teams of police are looking out for criminals involved in the crime.
Ranjith is being sought out by the Kerala Police Teams in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka.
The Kerala Police has confirmed that one of the SDPI activist who was directly involved in the crime is currently in custody but have not released his details.
According to police sources, the suspect in custody was from Alappuzha and lived close to Ranjith Srinivasan’s home.
