New Delhi : , Dec 25, 2005 – In the midst of Covid-19’s increasing threats, an image of crowds gathered at Delhi’s Sarojini Nagar Market has become viral.Officials said that the market would now be open on the basis the odd-even scheme, which will continue to operate on December 25th and 26.On Saturday, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), began a crackdown against encroachment in the posh markets.
All shopkeepers who had shops on the encroached market land were ordered to forfeit their goods.
In an effort to manage large crowds, the Delhi Police also took action.
Together, the NDMC staff and Civil Defence staff are making sure people follow Covid protocols.
They also make announcements to ask people to adhere.
Earlier in the day, NDMC met with market officers after the Delhi High Court raised concerns about the rise of Covid-19 cases within the capital.
They expressed their dismay at people who flouted Covid protocols, and summoned Sarojini Nagar’s Police Station House Officer.The court expressed concern about large crowds and said that this would lead to Covid-19-related deaths.
